Welcome to Nigerian Models Online. Welcome to Elixir Magazine.
Our first editorial… Whew! Who would have thought it?
This magazine took so long to launch, Uninterrupted Power Supply was actually beginning to look like a not-too-distant possibility…
We know there are a lot of fashion magazines out there. Far more than anybody would care to read. But Elixir isn’t just another fashion magazine. And here’s why.
A common trend in fashion publications today is their unanimous decision that fashion is snobbish. They continually feed us stories and pictures to prove that everybody who matters is prettier than us, richer than us, more glamorous, and that we are nothing but watchers, and we don’t count.
If you’re sick of glossy, sterile fashion magazines with their boring perfect people and boring perfect houses, Elixir is for you.
Not that you won’t find pomp, riches and wasteful pageantry here. Oh, we will have some of thaaat! But we’ll also publish stories that other fashion magazines usually ignore: the fun parties that happen on your street, that girl or guy you saw at the busstop the other day who dressed to kill (or who dressed as if mirrors were an abomination), the most funny rag-day costumes….
It’s also a magazine about models, and people who want to be models. We line them up for you to judge: the good, the bad, the beautiful, the… well… not-so-beautiful ( hmmm…now I think about it we should launch a section called Model Watch, where readers send us pictures of the most-strikingly-dressed people they see on the streets, and we publish the best photos and give a prize… you like that, kids? “YAY!” you like that? “YAAY!” alright, let me make a note here…)
Under the excuse of being a fashion mag, we intend to do all sorts of ridiculous and funny and interesting stuff. In fact, the only thing we won’t publish is a story or picture gallery that is boring. (Or one that is obscene or distasteful.) Because while our subject is fashion, we have only one rule: BE INTERESTING.
We might not have achieved that yet with this first issue, but that’s where we’re going. And we’ll need the assistance of you, our readers to help us get there. Submit fashion stories that you find interesting (with pictures!!! VERY IMPORTANT!!! We are a fashion magazine after all…) and give us the constructive criticism we’ll need to throw out the boring ones.
To summarize, Elixir magazine isn’t really about fashion. It’s about how fashion makes people behave.
May God save us all.
